Welcome to the homepage of
Tim Daly, Jr.

I'm a computer programmer who recently, (2006), moved to California's beautiful Bay Area. Prior to that, I lived in Berlin, Germany, my wife's home town. I feel very lucky to be a programmer in this exciting time, watching the internet and open source grow up, and a new generation of hackers embrace advanced languages. I'm extremely excited to see what the future holds.

A couple of my recent hacks:

  • An extension to emacs eldoc mode that displays a synopsis for the current function you're calling in C mode. It's based on etags, so it will probably work for any language that etags supports.
  • A trivial CAPTCHA generator in Common Lisp. Written on a sleepless night, after seeing people mention CLIKI spam on #lisp all day.
  • A compiler for PHP, written with the help of my great friends at Roadsend. Available for Linux, FreeBSD, Windows, and now the Mac too. Macs are just great.
  • I added support for using an existing PDF as a component of another to Marc Battyani's excellent cl-pdf library.

When I'm not programming, there are many other hobbies that I pour myself into. At the moment, jazz guitar and running are the two most central. I'm interested in ultramarathons, and hope to run a 100 miler one day. But a more proximate goal is the San Francisco marathon next summer. See you there!

I was awarded a 1st Dan in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu a few years ago by Noguchi Sensei on a trip to Japan with my brother and teacher Nate Daly, a brilliant martial artist.

I have a blog. Since I live so far apart from family and friends, I hope the blog will help keep us in touch.
